LAKE HAVASU CITY, Ariz. – Yamaha FZR WaveRunner riders stormed Lake Havasu City and the 2011 IJSBA World Finals this weekend; winning championship titles in all five of the Stock and Limited Runabout classes. Yamaha also won the first World title in the all new Pro Runabout Normally Aspirated class with the VXR.
The highlight of the weekend came when multi-time World and National champion Chris MacClugage rode his Macc Racing/Riva Racing/Dean’s Team Yamaha FZR WaveRunner to a 1-1 sweep in the Pro Runabout Stock class.
In Moto 1, Mac was bumped hard by a rider that moved into his lane. Mac spun out at near full throttle speeds, but averted disaster by miraculously holding on. Still, he lost several spots with only four laps remaining. MacClugage kicked on the afterburner and made a heroic pass on the last buoy of the last lap for the Moto 1 win. In Moto 2, MacClugage grabbed the hole shot on his Yamaha FZR and never looked back to clinch the World title.
This was the 30th anniversary of the IJSBA World Finals held annually in Lake Havasu City. It is the largest and most prestigious personal watercraft race in the world. In all, 700 athletes representing 40 countries participated at the week-long event. Complete event standings are available at www.ijsba.com.
